The Road to Recovery
Dear Future Patient,
I use this Road To Recovery chart to help my new patients understand the recovery process and what they can expect in the days, weeks and months ahead.
Most patients consult my office because they’re suffering from some type of ache or pain. Visits are scheduled close together during this early stage of care in order to help overcome imbalances and stress patterns that were formed over the previous months to years; also, there are three possible responses patients can have.
- Some see fast results with their symptoms improving quickly.
- A few can feel more symptoms as they improve and heal.
- Most patients enjoy steady improvement, with each of the visits
- building on the ones before and they reach ‘Decision Time.’
This is where you’ll have a decision to make:
You’ll be feeling better, but the supporting muscles and ligaments haven’t fully healed and strengthened by this point. That’s something that happens after symptoms disappear. You’ll have to decide whether to continue your visits to achieve maximum stability and healing so that you can keep yourself in tip-top shape, or….COAST. The only way to coast is to go downhill.
Without the strengthening and healing that happens with appropriate and consistent care, given your particular objective findings, you’ll be predisposed to a…….
Relapse. It cannot be predicted when, but most patients tell me it happens at the worst possible time.
When this happens, I hope you won’t blame me or chiropractic, especially if we didn’t have the opportunity to help fully heal supporting muscles and soft tissues. Many people think that once they feel better, that they are better. But people with undetected cancer, heart disease or even the early stages of tooth decay may not have symptoms, but they certainly aren’t healthy!
Then, you would be welcomed to come back and start all over with a series of visits to get you back to ‘Decision Time’ again.
And again you’ll choose whether to build on your investment and take the high road to stability and wellness, or……
COAST. And the only way to coast is to go downhill.
You’ll notice on the chart that each relapse gets a little worse and as your health potential diminishes, never getting back to where you were.
Please understand that you don’t have to make any decisions right away; however, having watched so many patients go through this process, I have the clinical responsibility and the moral obligation to explain this process to you in advance so you’ll understand the consequences of your choices. Part of your job is to decide how much care you want and part of my job is to deliver the very best care possible. I want you to know that either way, I’m here to serve you and to help you reach your health goals. I look forward to meeting you and getting started so that you can live a more abundant life!
